“The thinnest and lightest full-function notebook in its class” - the Lenovo ThinkPad X300 13.3-inch ultraportable - is now available for purchase.

“The ultra-thin ThinkPad X300 measures less than three-fourths of an inch at its thinnest point, or approximately the height of a U.S. quarter coin,” Lenovo’s press release says.

The laptop has a starting weight of 2.9 pounds, achieved with configuration of standard 3-cell battery and empty Option Bay. The Bay can be populated with an ultra-thin DVD burner or an additional 3-cell battery, giving “up to 10 hours” of run time when combined with a 6-cell main battery.

Regarding basic components, there are the Intel GM965 “Santa Rosa” chipset, Core 2 Duo L7100 1.2GHz low-voltage processor, and the Intel GMA X3100 integrated graphics, which manages the notebook’s 13.3? 1440x 900 LED backlit display. The system comes with a 64GB solid state drive instead of a standard HDD, and supports up to 4GB of DDR2 memory.

In this laptop, there is a variety of networking and connectivity features, including the Intel 4965AGN (802.11a/b/g/n) wireless, Gigabit Ethernet, Bluetooth, Verzon’s WWAN broadband option, a GPS receiver, optional USB modem, and the Intel UWB Link 1480 on select models, providing Wireless USB functionality. In addition, Lenovo says the X300 will support WiMax, when the technology become available.

The Lenovo ThinkPad X300 also has a built-in 1.3 megapixel camera on selected models, a fingerprint reader, three USB ports, and a VGA output. The notebook does not have a PC Card or ExpressCard slot.

It ships with Windows Vista or Windows XP Professional preinstalled.

This X300 ultraportable starts at approximately $2,799 and can be ordered through Lenovo.com or the PC maker’s business partners.
